Cain is a heritage professional with over 25 years’ experience in British archaeology, including 12 years with AC archaeology. He has worked both in the field and on desk-based research and has a particular interest in landscape archaeology survey projects. Since 2002 he has planned, managed and executed numerous Historic England funded remote sensing and aerial archaeology surveys, with a focus in the South West of England, and the landscape of Devon in particular. These included the analysis, interpretation and synthesis of multi-period archaeological information from historic and modern aerial photographic sources and remote sensing data such as LiDAR data and other digital sources. Cain has coordinated many aerial Investigation and mapping surveys and has authored numerous reports and publications summarising the results of research, including two English Heritage monographs.

Outside of work Cain enjoys the varied outdoor experiences the South  West offers, from sea swims to walking on the moors, as well as the surprisingly diverse arts and cultural events a small city like Exeter provides. In quieter moments he also likes making art and dabbles in printmaking and digital design.
